Eastern Railway first half earnings up 22.55%

October 9: Eastern Railway (ER), on October 9, said its earnings during the first six months (H1) of 2014-15 rose 22.55% compared to the corresponding period of 2013-14, an official release said.
ER said in a release that its earnings from good traffic during the period increased to Rs 2446.45 crore between April-September, 2014 from Rs 1,996.29 crore earned during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Of the total earnings in H1 of 2014-15, Rs 1667.54 crore or 68% came from loading of coal alone. Earnings from coal loading were up 30.44% as compared to Rs 1,278.40 crore recorded during the same period of 2013-14, the release added.
The total freight loading on originating basis during the first six months of 2014-15 stood at 31.40 million tons (mt), up 7.61% from 29.18 mt handled in the same period of the previous financial year.
During April-September, 2014-15, coal handling by Eastern Railways stood at 20.97 mt, up 8.52% from 19.32 mt coal handled in April-August, 2013-14
The increase in freight loading during the first half came despite a decline in loading in September, 2014 to 5.22 mt from 5.27 mt in September, 2013.
Eastern Railway earnings from freight loading stood at Rs 415.96 crore in August 2014.
