Eastern Railway freight loading up 15.31% in Nov y-o-y

December 10: Operating freight loading of Eastern Railway (ER) during the month of November increased 15.31% to 5.958 million tons (mt) against a volume of 5.045 mt recorded in the same month of 2013.
The ER said in a release that on a month-on month basis, freight loading also rose by 17.26% from 5.081 mt recorded in October 2014.
On a cumulative basis, total originating freight loading of Eastern Railways for the period April-November, 2014-15, increased to 42.443 mt, up 8.73% from 38.738 mt handled in the same period of 2013-14.
Meanwhile, ER registered a remarkable growth in freight earnings during the period from April to November this year, ie, the first eight months of 2014-15, although this division of Indian Railways is best known as a passenger-carrying railway as it runs 1,922 trains every day, carrying 33 lakhs passengers daily.
Freight earnings of ER during the period have reached around Rs 3,360.96 crore, registering a growth of 21.29% over the corresponding period of the last year.
In November alone this year, freight earnings stood at Rs 500.27 crore which is 27.16% more than that of the corresponding month of last year.
