Eastern Railways’ freight loading, goods revenue up in August y-o-y

September 8: Both freight loading and goods revenue of Eastern Railways increased during the month of August on a year-on-year basis, the company said in a statement.
According to a statement of Eastern Railway, the quantum jump in both freight loading and earning in the current year is due to loading of coal rakes for long destinations.
In August 2014, total freight loading of ER increased 9.04% to 5.10 million tons (mt) against a volume of 4.68 mt during the same month a year ago, while the company’s revenue from freight rose 30.67 % to Rs 415.96 crore against a earning of Rs 318.34 crore in the same month a year ago.
On a month-on-month basis the company’s earnings from goods increased from Rs 403.26 crore in July 2014.
Of the total freight, coal loading stood at 3.34 mt in August, 2014, the statement added.
On a cumulative basis, total originating freight loading of Eastern Railway for the period April to August, 2014 has increased to 26.18 mt up 9.51% from 23.91 mt handled in the same period of 2013-14.
The freight handling for the period also surpassed the target of 26.14 mt set for April-August 2014-15.
During April-August of 2014-15, coal handling by Eastern Railways stood at 17.61 mt, up 11.16% from that of 15.84 mt coal handled in April-August 2013-14
The total earning from goods traffic also increased 24.96% to Rs 2,052.25 crore for April to August, 2014 as against Rs 1,642.26 Crores earned during the corresponding period of last year.
The share of earning from coal freight stood at Rs 1,411.46 crores till August, 2014, up 36.01 % from revenue from coal during the corresponding period of last year, the statement said.
