Steam coal imports through Ennore Port dropped by 43.30% to 829,316 tons in January 2016 from 1,462,759 tons in December 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Consequently, total imports of the material in the first 10 months (April-January) of the current fiscal stood at 8,811,727 tons against 9,951,004 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15), showing a year-on-year drop of 11.45%.
In January 2015, steam coal imports stood at 940,266 tons.
Total imports of the material in financial year 2014-15 stood at 11,954,314 tons.

In January 2016, a volume of 762,818 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,190-Rs 5,244 ($33-$77) per ton and the balance 66,498 tons from Russia at a unit price of Rs 5,246 ($78).
In December 2015, a volume of 1,199,479 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,315-Rs 5,187 ($34-$77) per ton, 55,000 tons came in from China at a unit price of Rs 2,805 ($42) per ton and the balance 208,280 tons from Russia at a price band of Rs 5,187 – 5,230 ($77-78).
