Ennore Port to be developed as logistics hub

November 7: The Japanese government has identified Ennore port as one of the main logistics hubs in the proposed Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor which is part of the Peninsular Region Industrial Development Corridor (PRIDe) of India, according to an official release from the Ministry of Shipping.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has already undertaken a study in this regard, it said.

Meanwhile, Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan is leading a high-level delegation to Japan, which is expected to hold discussions with the Japanese government on providing more opportunities for Japanese companies to operate in various Indian ports, especially in Chennai and Ennore Port, the release said.

The delegation would also seek "Japanese expertise in port operations, ship recycling and shipbuilding are expected to be utilized by the Indian ports and shipyards in future."

Further, the Union Minister for Shipping would also try to obtain funds from JICA for Outer Harbour project of VOC Port, Tuticorin.
