March 31: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) recently received environmental clearance for its 1,600-MW (2X800) Ennore SEZ supercritical thermal power plant (Ennore SEZ STPP) from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
According to a statement issued by MoEF, the imported coal-based project will require around 4.29 million tons (mt) of coal per annum. The entire amount of coal will be obtained from Indonesia. The ministry specified that the sulphur and ash contents in the imported coal shall not exceed 0.7% and 12 % respectively at any given time.
Earlier, an MoU had been signed with MMTC Ltd for supply of coal to the proposed plant, the ministry said.
"Fly ash generated shall be proposed to be uses for cement industry," the statement added.
