Steam coal imports through Ennore Port catapulted by more than 180% to 1,462,759 tons in December 2015 from 522,328 tons in November 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Consequently, total imports of the material in the first nine months (April-December) of the current fiscal stood at 7,982,411 tons against 9,010,738 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15), showing a year-on-year drop of 11.41%.
In December 2014, steam coal imports stood at 1,225,069 tons.
Total imports of the material in financial year 2014-15 stood at 11,954,314 tons.

In December 2015, a volume of 1,199,479 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,315-Rs 5,187 ($34-$77) per ton, 55,000 tons came in from China at a unit price of Rs 2,805 ($42) per ton and the balance 208,280 tons from Russia at a price band of Rs 5,187 – 5,230 ($77-78).
In November 2015, a volume of 383,428 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,096-Rs 5,148 ($31-$79) per ton and the balance 138,900 tons from Russia at a band of Rs 5,148 – Rs 5,187 ($78)/ton.
