Ensure ample amount of coal to generate power: UP to Centre

04 Jul 2014

In the backdrop of power crisis in Uttar Pradesh, the state government today asked the Centre to ensure availability of ample amount of coal to generate power.

"They (BJP members) should tell us when will they make coal available to the state," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said in the Assembly during Question Hour.

He also sought to know from the BJP members that when power would be generated from nuclear plants in the country.

"We have 73 MPs and we will raise your voice with Centre and support you," he added.

In his reply, Minister Ram Murti Verma said that in the recent investors conclave, 150 investors participated and MoUs worth Rs 42 thousand crores were signed and investments proposals worth Rs 12 thousand crores were also discussed.

Meanwhile, state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said that price of essential commodities is rising in the present regime (at the Centre).

"Even Bajpai 'poori' (a famous shop selling poori in Lucknow) is being sold at Rs 10 due to the price-rise," he said.

"Agar hamare pass 73 sansad hote to hum danda maar kar (eese) theek kar dete" (If we had 73 MPs, we will have used stick to make this in order), Khan said while trying to put BJP members on the dock over price rise.

Heated debate ensued between BJP and SP when Khan said that free laptop, unemployment allowance and scholarship schemes were discontinued due to BJP.

BJP leader Satish Mahana said, "If you have scrapped these schemes because of BJP, why are you not maintaining law and order on our request".
