Essar Power to procure SA coal at $75-76/ton

September 24: Essar Power Limited has finalised a deal to procure one cargo of South African coal at $75-76 per ton CFR Bedi port, an industry source told ICMW.

The material is of specification 5,500 kcal/kg.

Recently, the company had floated an enquiry to procure 0.3 million tons (mt) of imported steam coal for its 1,200-MW Salaya power plant in Gujarat.

Essar Power has imported around 4.5 mt of coal since the plant came to operation around a year back. The imports were partly through traders on CFR basis and partly through miners on FOB basis.
