Essar Steel’s Vizag captive power plant restored

April 17: : Essar Steel restored the captive power plant inside its pellet plant in Visakhapatnam, five months after it was damaged by Cyclone Hudhud, the company said in a statement on April 15.

The 30-MW captive power plant located in the premises of Essar Steel’s pellet plant was damaged severely by the super-cyclone in October 2014, said a company statement.

“The plant is being operated at full capacity and has begun supplying power to the 8 million tons per annum pellet plant,” the statement said.

“With the captive power plant back on stream, the pellet plant will now once again have access to economic and reliable power, thereby improving its competitive edge,” the statement further said.
