Essar gets stage II forest clearance for Mahan block

February 13: Essar Energy plc on February 13 said its subsidiary Essar Power Ltd has received Stage II forest clearance for its Mahan coal block from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).

The block was allotted to Essar Power jointly with Hindalco Industries Ltd in 2006.

"This clearance is subject to the fulfilment of some further conditions. Mahan Coal Limited (50% held by Essar Power Limited) will now be required to sign a mining lease agreement with the state of Madhya Pradesh before commencing mining operations," the company statement said.
