Essel Mining to produce 30 mt of coal in FY15

September 15: Coal production by private mining company Essel Mining & Industries Ltd (EMIL) from two Coal India mines is going to reach 30 million tons (mt) in the current financial year (2014-15), P R Mandal, Head, Strategy & Business Development, Essel Mining, said on September 15.
“Production from the two mines at Bhubaneswari and Rajmahal will reach 30 mt this year. Next year, we may go up to 40 mt,” Mandal said while speaking at the 8th Indian Coal Markets Conference in Kolkata, organised by mjunction services limited, HIS McCloskey and the Coal Consumers’ Association of India (CCAI).
The Bhubaneswari block of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), which is being operated by the joint venture company Bhubaneshwari Coal Mining Project, is expected to produce 22 mt of coal in 2014-15, while the Rajmahal Open Cast Project of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) will produce around 8 mt, he said.
EMIL, an Aditya Birla Group company, had entered the coal mining sector two years back but showed an exemplary growth in production in a short time. The company produced 11.4 mt of coal from the Bhubaneswari mine in the very first year of operation, ie, 2012-13.
