Pet coke imports through the port of Kolkata edged up to 36,043 tons in March 2016 against 29,993 tons in February 2016, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Total imports of the material in fiscal of 2015-16 went up 8.37% year-on-year to 178,833 tons against 165,009 tons seen in the previous fiscal.
Pet coke imports have been swinging wildly through this port. It may be recalled that in November last calendar, these had improved to 18,075 tons after plunging to an abysmal 307 tons in October.
Imports of the material in March 2015 were at a far lower 12,976 tons.
Following is the month-wise break-up of imports of pet coke via Kolkata Port in 2015-16 and 2014-15:

In March 2016, 24,000 tons arrived from Saudi Arabia at a price range of Rs 2,759 – 3,826 ($41-55), 170 tons from China at a unit price of Rs 51,505 ($757), and the balance 11,873 tons from the US at a price range of Rs 6,185 – Rs 6,399 ($92-95)/ton.
February 2016 saw 29,857 tons arriving from the US at a price range of Rs 4,698 – 7,980 ($69-117) and the balance 136 tons from China at a unit price of Rs 51,468 ($752).
