Fall in CIL’s despatches to steel sector in 2014-15

April 29: Despatches of coal by Coal India Ltd (CIL) to steel sector consumers fell by 10.56% in 2014-15 even as despatches to power and cement sector consumers rose by 8.58% and 1.84% respectively, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Total despatches by the company to various consuming sectors stood at 488.92 million tons (mt) in 2014-15, up from 471.20 mt in 2013-14, showing an increase of 3.76%.
Despatches to the steel sector fell to 7.03 million tons (mt) in 2014-15 from 7.86 mt in 2013-14 while that to the cement sector rose to 5.54 mt from 5.44 mt, the data revealed.
According to the data, despatches to the power sector increased to 385.04 mt from 354.62 mt in 2013-14, while that to fertiliser companies stood at 2.27 mt compared with 2.29 mt in 2013-14.
In March, the company’s total despatches stood at 47.45 mt, up from 43.14 mt in February and also up from 45.21 mt in March 2014. The despatch target for March 2015 was 50.05 mt.
Of the total despatches during March 2015, those to the power sector were at 36.08 mt (32.76 mt in February 2015), to the steel sector at 0.79 mt (0.63 mt in February 2015), cement sector at 0.47 mt (0.43 mt in February) and fertiliser companies at 0.24 mt (0.20 mt in February).
The company’s despatch figures for the power, steel, cement and fertiliser sectors in March 2014 were 34.03 mt, 0.92 mt, 0.55 mt and 0.16 mt respectively.
