Feb coking coal imports via New Mangalore fall 64.5% m-o-m

March 21: Coking coal imports through New Mangalore Port during February 2014 fell sharply by almost 64.5% to 18,972 tons from 53,444 tons recorded in January 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In February 2013, coking coal imports via the port stood at 21,000 tons.
Total imports of coking coal through New Mangalore Port in the first 11 months (April-February) of 2013-14 stood at 473,283 tons against 584,562 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via New Mangalore Port in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

During February 2014, the entire material came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,208-Rs 10,293 ($99-$164) per ton.
However, in January, 39,500 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,208-Rs 8,323 ($100-$133) per ton while the rest of 13,944 tons came from Canada at a price of Rs 9,977 ($160) per ton.
