In February 2016, steam coal imports via Karaikal Port stood at 343.728 tons, up 67.18%, from 205.596 tons reported in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Total imports of steam coal through the port during the first 11 months (April-January) of 2015-16 stood at 1,263,173 tons, against 307,793 tons for the same period of last fiscal, though for seven months there were no data available.

In February 2016, a volume of 10,000 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 3,506-Rs 3,509 ($51) per ton, 313,728 tons from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,230-Rs 3,807 ($47-$55) per ton and 20,000 tons from South Africa at a price range of Rs 3,974-Rs 4,003 ($58) per ton.
In January 2016, a volume of 5,000 tons came from Australia at a unit price of Rs 3,506 ($51) per ton, 190,596 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,209-Rs 3,343 ($48-$50) per ton and 10,000 tons from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 3,916 ($58).
