Feb steam coal imports via Kolkata Port up 68.77% m-o-m

March 7: Steam coal import volumes through the port of Kolkata rose 68.77% to 7,200 tons in February 2014 against 4,266 tons reported in January of the same year, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, steam coal imports via Kolkata during the first 11 months of 2013-14 stood at 1,735,675 tons against 1,625,631 tons registered in the same period last fiscal.
Imports of the commodity in February 2013 were at a sizeable 22,000 tons.
Total imports in 2012-13 amounted to 1,696,998 tons.

In February, imports included 5,000 tons from South Africa in a price band of Rs 6,062- Rs 6,640 ($96-$105) per ton while the balance 2,200 tons arrived from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 6,376 ($101).
In January 2014, the entire volume arrived from South Africa in a price band of Rs 5,733 – Rs 6,062 ($92-$97) per ton.
