January 9: Spot steam coal prices of South African and Australian origin softened further on low demand, industry sources said.
While Chinese demand for Australian steam coal was pegged lower, the anticipation of continuous smooth supplies from Colombia to European countries put pressure on South African coal, they added.
Freight rates continued to soften in the absence of deals, they said.
