September 6: Spot coal prices in international markets softened further in all the major markets on continued absence of major enquiries, industry sources said.
Prospect of the end of the Drummond strike also affected price sentiments, they said.
Reports suggest that the strike was likely to be withdrawn on September 5.
Echoing the sentiment, South African prices softened by another $0.15 whereas Australian steam coal prices fell by $0.40. Indonesian prices remained largely unchanged, but a few grades showed softness.
Meanwhile, freight rates firmed up by around $0.25 per ton for Panamax vessels tracking firmness in Capesize freight over the past few days.
