July 16: Spot coal prices in international markets softened further on July 15 as Chinese companies reduced their domestic coal prices, market sources said.
Not only have enquiries from China reduced in the international markets, hardly any buyers are actually looking to finalise deals, since they expect further softness in prices, they said.
Indian companies, though buying intermittently whenever they are getting better deals, are maintaining a low profile, expecting a further softness in South African coal prices which breached the $70-mark for the first time in recent memory.
