Gangavaram’s Dec steam coal imports double m-o-m

January 21: Steam coal imports via Gangavaram Port stood at 1,687,535 tons in December 2014, up almost 2.4 times from 689,673 tons reported in November 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.  

During December 2013, steam coal imports via the port stood at 129,475 tons.

During the first nine months (April-December) of the current financial year of 2014-15, total steam coal imported through the port stood at 6,762,946 tons while the figure was at 3,883,585 tons during the corresponding period of 2013-14.

Following are the details of imports in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In December 2014, 257,280 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 4,211-Rs 5,229 ($67-$84) per ton, 609,956 tons from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,545-Rs 4,205 ($57-$67) per ton, 44,032 tons from Mozambique at a price of Rs 4,019 ($64) per ton, 776,267 tons from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,019-Rs 5,398- ($64-$85) per ton.

However, in November 2014, out of the entire quantity, 27,947 tons came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 4,514-Rs 4,840 ($73-$78) per ton whereas the balance 661,726 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,046-Rs 5,656 ($65-$90) per ton.
