September 8: The power sector is expected to witness an investment of more than Rs 75,000 crore under various schemes taken up to spruce up rural and urban transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure, according to power and coal minister Piyush Goyal.
The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) is expected to see investment of about Rs 43,000 crore for feeder segregation for agriculture and domestic usage in rural India, while the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for urban areas is expected to fetch about Rs 32,600 crore, Goyal said on September 7.
The IPDS will help strengthen the sub-transmission & distribution infrastructure, including metering in urban areas and underground cabling.
Together, these schemes would be a “major step forward for our vision of 24x7 consistent power,” the minister said.
He further said that long pending transmission projects worth Rs 12,272 crore have been cleared and Green Energy Corridor for evacuation of renewable power is being expedited as well.
