Govt grants EC to 5 coal projects in July

July 24: In a bid to expedite clearance of new coal mining projects, the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has granted environmental clearance (EC) to five coal mining projects in July, according to data released by the ministry.
The projects include: 1) Changlang coal mine project of Kali Mandal in Arunachal Pradesh; 2) Andamans project of Kali Mandal in Andamans & Nicobar; 3) Tikak Extension OCP of Coal India Ltd in Tinsukia, Assam; 4) Marki-Barka Underground coal mine project of MP State Mining Corp Ltd in Singrouli, Madhya Pradesh; 5) Chhatrsal Coal Mining Project of Sasan Power Ltd in Madhya Pradesh.
Among the projects cleared in July, the Andamans project obtained EC in two days, while the Arunachal project was granted EC in three days, the data shows.
With these, the total number of coal projects granted EC in 2014-15 increased to 8.
