Govt to allocate 16 coal mines to state PSUs
17 Mar 2016
The government has decided to allocate 16 coal blocks to state public sector undertakings for supplies to small and medium enterprises within a particular state, the Ministry of Coal said in an order.
Coal Secretary Anil Swarup had re-iterated in Kolkata on March 9 that the government will allocate coal blocks to state PSUs who will mine the coal and supply to SME units.
“It is difficult for Coal India to send coal to small-ticket consumers, especially where the requirement is less than a rake. Respective states would decide the procedure of sale to the consumers. There will not be any uniform guideline from the Centre,” Swarup had said.
As per the coal ministry’s order dated March 16, the allotment of blocks has been done in two groups. In the first group, eight host states where coal blocks are located would get such blocks and in another group other than host states would get another eight blocks.
