November 23: In an effort to expedite production from Schedule II coal mines, ie, the mines which were in operation till April 30 and had to stop production following e-auction, the Ministry of Coal has convened a meeting on November 26 to review the status of such coal mines.
The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary (Coal) and the Nominated Authority.
There had been a lot of criticism of the government for delay in re-starting production from already operational mines primarily because of delays in getting certain permissions from the state government.
The designated nodal officers of six state governments – Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha – along with successful bidders of 33 Schedule II coal mines have been invited to attend the meeting.
The meeting will discuss among others the post mining lease clearance issues leading to mine opening permissions where the mining lease (ML) has been granted and in other cases status of the execution of the ML.
