April 06: The ministry of coal is planning to put another 16-24 mines on auction within third week of April, a top official of the ministry has said.
“Another 16-24 mines will be put to auction in the third week of April. We are doing the ground work for that,” Secretary (Coal) Anil Swarup said in Kolkata on April 5 while detailing the future plans.
Speaking at an interaction organised by Coal Consumers Association of India, Swarup said the government has so far auctioned 29 mines and it has allocated 38 mines so that means a total of 67 mines have been handed over.
“Of the 16 mines that will be auctioned in the third week of April, 5 will go to the non-regulated sector and 11 to regulated sector,” Swarup said.
“Once we do this regulated sector, I think the requirement of power sector will by and large be fulfilled and thereafter we will do different category,” he added.
