November 25: Coal Minister Piyush Goyal has justified Coal India Ltd’s (CIL) decision to go for outsourcing of coal production, overburden removal and transportation in some mines and said that there has been no reduction of manpower due to outsourcing.
The activities outsourced by CIL mainly include coal production, overburden (OB) removal and transportation in some mines of its subsidiaries, he said.
In view of the rapidly increasing demand for coal, particularly from power sector, and to enhance the production in the shortest possible time, CIL has started outsourcing some of its activities in some of its mines mainly to build up additional capacity of coal production, without sacrificing departmental capacities, Goyal said.
“As such there is no reduction of manpower due to outsourcing and losing any livelihood. It rather increases employment opportunities indirectly through outsourcing agencies,” the minister added.
