December 17: So far 10 states have joined Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojna (UDAY), Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy said, adding the government is also seeking participation of industry to achieve its “Power For All” goal during a recent Power For All Summit.
Goyal explained that “UDAY is an entirely bottoms-up scheme which has emerged out of the culmination of the engagements with bankers, discoms, power producers, consumers’ bodies, state governments and all other stakeholders, over a long period.”
He further appealed to transmission companies in the country to play a leadership role in explaining any loopholes in either bidding and evaluation process or its technical aspects.
The government is putting serious effort to expedite ongoing projects and bidding out new projects in the last 18 months. For the first time a government has spent Rs 10,000 crore to set up transmission and distribution in North-Eastern areas of the country. He added that last year the government achieved 100% of its transmission target for the first time in decades.
