Green nod for Kohinoor Power’s captive plant

September 4: Kolkata-based Kohinoor Power Private Ltd has obtained the environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) to set up a 1x66 MW captive thermal power plant at Kuchidih, Jharkhand. The unit is slated to use imported coal, dolochar and middlings as fuel.
The ministry awarded the EC for the same vide a letter issued to the management on September 1, 2014.
As per the communique, imported coal requirement for the project will be 0.18 million tons per annum (mpta) while middlings and dolochar requirement will be 0.076 mtpa and 0.079 mtpa respectively, which will be sourced from sister company Kohinoor Steel and other plants.
The MoEF mandates that the sulphur and ash contents in the imported coal shall not exceed 0.65% and 34% respectively and says that the coal can only be transported through rail.
The communique further added that an imported coal agreement has been signed with Kolkata–based Godavari Commodities Ltd for supply of 0.18 mtpa of imported coal from South Africa.
“A cement grinding unit near the proposed plant for utilising fly ash is also proposed to be installed,” the communique added.
The land required for the project is 40 acres and the total capital cost of the project would be Rs 349 crore.
