February 25: The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC) has granted environmental clearances (EC) for expansion of the Paunderpauni coal washery project of ACB (India) Limited.
The clearance to the cluster was accorded on February 19.
The Paunderpauni coal washery was given permission to increase capacity to 2.6 million tons per annum (mtpa) from the current 1.6 mtpa. Raw coals from the mines of Ballarpur area are beneficiated in this washery.
Earlier, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) and MAHAGENCO refused to give coal. “There were no orders for washing of coal and, therefore, the washing capacity could not be increased,” the communique said.
