Gypsum imports via Chennai surge in October

November 27: Gypsum imports through Chennai Port surged manifold to a hefty 96,305 tons in October 2014 against 2,686 tons in September, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

Imports of the material in October 2013 stood at a mere 98 tons.

Imports of gypsum through the port in the first seven months of the current financial year stood at 152,990 tons as against 185,357 tons imported in the same period of previous fiscal (2013-14).

The following table contains the month-wise import figures of gypsum via Chennai Port during 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In October, 93,860 tons arrived from Oman in a range of Rs 1,479 – Rs 1,532 ($24-25), 1,015 tons from Vietnam in a range of Rs 11,181 – Rs 11,481 ($181-185) per ton, 886 tons from Iran in a range of Rs 4,222 – Rs 4,529 ($68-73) per ton, 354 tons from Thailand in a range of Rs 6,278 – Rs 12,927 ($101-204), 103 tons from Saudi Arabia at a unit price of Rs 8,822 ($142) per ton, amongst others.

In September, 1,586 tons arrived from Iran in a range of Rs 4,133 – Rs 7,272 ($68-119) per ton, 205 tons from Oman in a range of Rs 8,660 – Rs 8,697 ($140-142) per ton, 260 tons from Thailand in a range of Rs 6,480 – Rs 9,300 ($105-152) per ton, amongst others.
