ICVL floats tender for 200-MW Benga thermal unit
22 Feb 2016
International Coal Ventures Private Ltd (ICVL), a joint venture of Indian PSUs for securing overseas coal assets, has floated a tender inviting expression of interest (EoI) for the construction and operation of a coal-based thermal power plant near its coal mines at Benga, Tete Province of Mozambique.
The proposed plant, which would have an initial capacity of 200 MW, would be built on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The full project design, as originally approved, could have a capacity of up to 2,000 MW, the tender document says.
ICVL had earlier launched a tender in this regard but had received a lukewarm response from the market, reportedly due to power offtake constraints.
The Benga open cast mine, which ICVL Mozambique operates through Minas de Benga, Lda (MBL), is designed to produce 5.2 million tons per annum of coal.
The tender will close on 3 March 2016.
