IMC to hold washery rejects meet on Jan 29

20 Jan 2014

January 20: A meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC), set up to formulate a policy on distribution of coal rejects from washeries, will be held on January 29, according to the Ministry of Coal (MoC).

The government is mulling plans to frame a policy on coal rejects against the backdrop of acute fuel shortage in the country.

Earlier, the ministry had said, "In accordance with the decision taken in the meeting of the Standing Linkage Committee (Long Term) for power...it has been decided to formulate a policy for allocation of coal/washery rejects generation by CIL for washery rejects based power plants."

An inter-ministerial committee, set up under the chairmanship of the Additional Secretary of Coal, had met for the first time last month. The committee which has representatives from various ministries, including power, will assess the actual rejects generated from Coal India (CIL) washeries and formulate suitable norms for supply of rejects on a long-term basis from CIL washeries.

The ministry has also informed that the fourth IMC meet to consider issues related to supply of coal to certain end-use plants linked to coal blocks will be held on January 28, 2014.
