IWAI, Paradip, Dhamra, Odisha to jointly develop NW5

December 23: Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Odisha, Paradip Port and Dhamra Port to develop National Waterways 5, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Shipping on December 22.
“In National Waterway- 5, the East Coast Canal has been integrated with Brahmini river and Mahanadi delta rivers (588km)” the release said. It added that IWAI plans to develop NW5 into a commercially viable venture in two phases.
Meanwhile, the release said that on NW-4 a project for development of the Sholinganallur-Kallapakkam stretch of South Buckingham Canal has been sanctioned.
“To facilitate execution of the work, the state government of Tamil Nadu has been approached for providing assistance with regard to identification and handing over land for development of terminals and dumping of the dredged materials,” it added.
