11 Jan 2016
The district police started an anti-coal smuggling drive in Maoist-prone jungles of Nawadih and recovered about 15 tonne of coa on Saturdayl. A tractor ferrying illegal coals was also seized by police. This indicates that illegal coal mining is still on in the jungles of Upperghat, while coal scavengers were stealing coals from mining areas of Central Coalfield Limited (CCL).
A team led by DSP, Bermo, Neeraj Kumar recovered the illegal coal stocked in the jungles under Pilpilo Panchayat. "We conducted raids and recovered the illegal coal stock, which we brought it to police station. Raids will be continued to stop illegal mining and transporting of coals," said Kumar.
Police conducting investigation found that the tractor which was used in illegal coal transporting belongs to a person in Lahiya village. Meanwhile police is trying to identify people involved in the crime, said DSP.
