Imported coal evacuation hit at Vizag Port on rakes shortage
21 Aug 2014
August 21: Railway rakes shortage is hampering steam coal movement from the port of Vizag despite huge demand, a senior official from the port told ICMW.
“Though there is huge demand, steam coal is not moving out fast from the port as the Indian Railways (IR) has not been able to supply enough rakes,” he said, adding, “We had asked Railways to supply us at least 15 rakes a month, but it is supplying only 8-10.”
According to data available with ICMW, coal stocks at the port of Vizag, including steam coal and coking coal, stood at 0.7 million tons (mt) as on August 15, similar to the levels on August 8 (one week ago).
