India Apr-Nov imports of thermal coal into 12 major ports up 36%: IPA

India's 12 main government-controlled ports handled 47.8 million mt of imported thermal coal during April-November, up 35.7% from 35.2 million mt from the same period a year ago, according to the latest data by Indian ports Association (IPA).
Coking coal imports into the 12 ports, meanwhile, rose 7.8% to 22 million mt in the period from.
The 12 ports are: Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Ennore, Chennai, VO Chidambaranar (Tuticorin), Cochin, New Mangalore, Mormugao, Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Kandla.
Paradip port on the east coast received the largest thermal coal shipments at 16.4 million mt during the period, an increase of 25% on the year.
Mormugao port on west coast received the largest volume of coking coal during the eight-month period, at around 4.9 million mt, up 19.5%.
In November, the 12 ports handled around 5.5 million mt of imported thermal coal, up 10% on the year, while coking coal imports rose 21% to 3.4 million mt.
