India adds 23,976.6 MW generation capacity in FY16

India has added 23,976.60 MW power generation capacity during financial year 2015-16, an increase of 6.25% compared to 22,566.31 MW capacity addition effected in 2014-15, according to a report released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Of the total capacity addition during 2015-16, a quantum of 22,460.60 MW was in the thermal sector, up 7.83% from 20,830.30 MW added in 2014-15.
The addition in hydro was, however, up a whopping 105.98% at 1,516 MW from 736.01 MW added in 2014-15. There was no addition in the nuclear sector in 2015-16 though there was addition of 1,000 MW in 2014-15.
Moreover, around 9,795 MW of power generation capacity was added in India in March 2016, according to the CEA report. Incidentally, 660 MW of power generation capacity was added in February 2016.
The country had added 6,630.9 MW of generation capacity in March 2015, the data revealed.
The following units were commissioned in March 2016:
Thermal
1. Nabi Nagar TPP Exp. U-1 (250 MW) was commissioned on March 20, 2016.
2. Bokaro TPS "A" Ltd Exp U-I (500MW) was commissioned on March 22, 2016.
3. Mouda STPP-II U-3 (660 MW) was commissioned on March 28, 2016
4. Bellary TPP St-III U-3 (700 MW) was commissioned on March 1, 2016
5. Chandrapur TPS Extn. U-9 (500 MW) was commissioned on March 21, 2016
6. Koradi TPS Extn. U-9 (660 MW) was commissioned on March 15, 2016
7. Singareni TPP U-1 (600 MW) was commissioned on March 13, 2016
8. Anpara -D TPS U-7 (500 MW) was commissioned on March 6, 2016
9. Yermarus TPP U-1 (800 MW) was commissioned on March 29, 2016.
10. Parli TPS U-8 (250 MW) was commissioned on March 30, 2016
11. Balco TPP U-2 (300 MW) was commissioned on March 24, 2016.
12. Raikheda TPP U-2 (685 MW) was commissioned on March 28, 2016.
13. Seioni TPP Ph-I U-1 (600 MW) was commissioned on March 22, 2016.
14. Goindwal Sahib TPP U-2 (270 MW) was commissioned on March 15, 2016
15. Lalitpur TPP U-1 (660 MW) was commissioned on March 26, 2016.
16. Vizag TPP U-2 (520 MW) was commissioned on March 30, 2016.
17. Anuppur TPP Ph-I U-2 (600 MW) was commissioned on March 30, 2016.
18. Talwandi sabo TPP U-3 (660 MW) was commissioned on March 29, 2016.

Hydro
1. Teesta low dam stage-IV U-2 (40 MW) was commissioned on March 16, 2016
2. Lower Jurala U-4 (40 MW) was commissioned on March 5, 2016.
According to the CEA, India’s total installed power generation capacity stood at 298,059.97 MW at the end of March 2016.
Of the total installed capacity in the country, thermal power generation capacity stood at 210,675.04 MW (185,172.88 MW coal-fired, 24,508.63-MW gas-fired and 993.53 MW diesel-fired), nuclear power generation capacity stood at 5,780 MW, hydro generation at 42,783.42 MW and renewables at 38,821.51 MW.
