India’s 2015-16 coal production edges up 4.70% y-o-y

India’s coal production during fiscal 2015-16 (April-March) stood at 637.87 mt, up 4.71% from 609.17 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The production was 8.87% lower than the annual target of 700 mt set for FY16.
The country’s coal production in March 2016 increased 15.45% to 69.41 million tons (mt) as against 60.12 mt in February 2016.
The m-o-m increase in production was largely due to higher number of working days in March as compared to February.
The production in March 2016 was 1.73% higher compared to 68.22 mt produced in March 2015.
The actual production during the month was 3.80% lower than the target of 72.15 mt, mainly due to lower-than-targeted production by Coal India Ltd and captive coal mines.
