India’s December coal despatches up 7.18% m-o-m

India’s coal despatches in the month of December 2015 stood at 57.80 million tons (mt) against 53.93 mt in November 2015, up 7.18% month-on-month, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

On a year-on-year basis, the despatches in December 2015 registered a growth of 4.92% from 55.09 mt recorded in the same month in 2014. The December 2015 performance, however, was considerably lower than the monthly target of 62.37 mt, the data shows.

Coal despatches in the first nine months (April-December) of the current fiscal (2015-16) stood at 462.56 mt, up 4.63% from 442.11 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal.

India’s coal despatches during April-December, 2015-16 were 90.67% of the 510.13 mt target set for the period.

Of the total coal despatched during April-December, 2015, CIL’s share stood at 388.99 mt, up from 354.39 mt recorded for the same period a year ago. In the month of December 2015, CIL’s despatches stood at 48.12 mt. CIL’s despatches’ target for the month of December 2015 was 49.43 mt and the same for the first nine months of 2015-16 was 399.37 mt.

Coal despatches from Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and captive blocks stood at 5.44 mt and 4.24 mt, respectively, in December 2015, against 4.74 mt and 6.41 mt achieved, respectively, in the same month last fiscal. The despatch target for the month of December 2015 was 5.11 mt for SCCL and 7.83 mt for captive blocks.

The country’s annual coal despatch target in 2015-16 is 699.63 mt.
