India’s FY16 coal despatches up marginal 4.58% y-o-y
28 Apr 2016
India’s coal despatches in 2015-16 stood at 631.43 million tons (mt), 9.74% lower from the target of 699.58 mt, and up 4.58% from 603.77 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Of the total coal despatched during April-March, 2015-16, as much as 531.901 mt was despatched by CIL, which was 8.80% higher compared to 488.86 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal.
India’s coal despatches in the month of March 2016 stood at 58.13 million tons (mt), down 6.08% from 54.36 mt despatched in February 2016.
Inability of the power plants to take delivery of coal in view of higher stocks already lying with them appear to be the main reason for the slight growth in despatches on a month-on-month basis.
The despatches in March this year were 11.39% lower than the target of 65.58 mt set for the month, the data showed.
On a year-on-year basis, the despatches in March 2016 were higher by 0.83% as compared to 57.63 mt recorded in the same month of 2015.
