India’s February coal despatches down 6.08% m-o-m
29 Mar 2016
India’s coal despatches in the month of February 2016 stood at 54.36 million tons (mt), down 6.08% from 57.88 mt despatched in January 2016, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Inability of power plants to take delivery of coal in view of higher stocks already lying with them appear to be the main reason for the almost flat growth in despatches on a month-on-month basis.
The despatches in February this year were 9.25% lower than the target of 59.90 mt set for the month, the data showed.
On a year-on-year basis, the despatches in February 2016 were higher by 3.95% as compared to 52.29 mt recorded in the same month of 2015.
Coal despatches in the first 11 months (April-February) of the current fiscal (2015-16) stood at 574.01 mt, down nearly 9.46% from the target of 574.18 mt, but up 5.04% from 546.42 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Of the total coal despatched during April-February of 2015-16, as much as 482.79 mt was despatched by CIL, which was 9.34% higher compared to 441.53 mt recorded in the same period of previous fiscal.
