India’s Jan coking coal production exceeds target

India’s coking coal production in January 2016 exceeded the target of 5.33 million tons (mt) and stood at 5.55 mt, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The production during the month was 1.65% higher compared to 5.45 mt in December 2015, and 6.94% higher compared to 5.18 mt produced in January 2015, the data revealed.
Coking coal production during the first 10 months (April-January) of the current fiscal stood at 47.38 mt, marginally higher than 45.54 mt recorded for the same period of the previous fiscal.
Of the total production in January, 4.90 mt (4.57 mt last year) was produced by Coal India Ltd (CIL) subsidiaries, while 0.59 mt (0.65 mt) was produced by captive mines.
