India’s Jan pithead vendible stocks up 11% y-o-y

India’s pithead vendible coal stocks rose 10.69% to 48.03 million tons (mt) as on January 31, 2016 from 43.39 mt as on the last day of January 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-month basis, the pithead vendible coal stocks were up 12.03% from 42.87 mt recorded as on the last day of December 2015.
The increase in pithead stock was largely on account of a sharp jump in stocks at six of the eight coal producing subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (ECL, CCL, NCL, WCL, SECL and NEC) and also with Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL).
The following table gives detailed break-up of pithead vendible stocks with coal companies as of the last date of the months (April-January) for 2015-16 and on January 31, 2015 (in million tons):
