India’s January coal production up 1.51% m-o-m
26 Feb 2016
India’s coal production in January 2016 edged up 1.51% to 62.90 million tons (mt) as against 61.95 mt in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The production in January 2016 was 9.07% higher compared to 57.67 mt produced in January 2015.
Despite an increase, the actual production during the month was 9.25% lower than the target of 69.31 mt, mainly due to lower-than-targeted production by Coal India Ltd and captive coal mines.
The country’s coal production during the first 10 months (April-January) of the current fiscal (2015-16) stood at 508.63 mt, up 5.28% from 483.14 mt recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal, nearly 10% lower than the target of 562.64 mt set for the period.
