India’s January coal production up 1.66% y-o-y

March 2: India’s coal production during January 2015 stood at 58.08 million tons (mt), up 1.66% from 57.13 mt in January 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, India’s coal output in January 2015 fell significantly short of the targeted 61.07 mt. India’s coal output for the month of January was 95.10% of the target, data revealed.
Production in January 2015 fell slightly from 58.37 mt produced in December 2014.
India’s coal production during April-January, 2014-15 stood at 485.12 mt, up 8.23% compared to 448.21 mt produced during the corresponding period of 2013-14, the provisional data revealed.
However, production during April-January, 2014-15 was lower from the target of 505.10 mt for the period.
For financial year 2014-15, India’s coal production target stands at 630.25 mt of which 507 mt is to be produced by Coal India, 55 mt by Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and 68.25 mt by captive coal mines.
