India’s Mar pithead vendible stocks up 8% y-o-y

April 28: India’s pithead vendible coal stocks rose 8.05% to 59.98 million tons (mt) as on the last day of March 2015 against 55.51 mt as on the last day of March 2014 according to provisional data available with ICMW.

On a month-on-month basis, India’s pithead vendible coal stocks increased 22.53% from 48.95 mt recorded as on the last day of February 2015.

The increase could be attributed to higher pithead vendible stocks of Coal India Ltd (CIL) subsidiaries such as South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) where inventories rose to 12.82 mt as on March 31, 2015 as against 7.76 mt as on March 31, 2014.

During the period under review, pithead vendible stocks at Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) stood at 3.45 mt on the last day of March 2015 from 1.91 mt on the same day a year ago while that of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) increased to 4.50 mt from 3.57 mt a year ago.

Pithead vendible coal stocks at captive coal mines stood at 1.01 mt on March 31, down from 1.28 mt on the same day a year ago. Stocks at Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) dropped slightly to 5.35 mt on March 31, 2015 from 5.55 mt as on March 2014.
