India’s May coal production up 5.48%

June 30: India’s coal production in May 2014 stood at 45.58 million tons (mt), up 5.48% compared to 43.21 mt produced during the corresponding month of 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The production in May was higher by 3.31% as compared to 44.12 mt produced in April, but down by 6.35% from the target of 48.67 mt for the month, the data revealed.
With this, India’s coal production during the first two months of 2014-15 stood at 91.30 mt, up 5.34% as compared to 86.67 mt produced during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
Despite slight increase in year-on-year production, the country’s coal production during the first two months of 2014-15 was lower by 4.89% from the target of 96.00 mt for the period.
For the financial year 2014-15, India’s coal production target stands at 630.25 mt of which 507.00 mt is to be produced by Coal India India, 55.00 mt by Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and 68.25 mt by captive coal mines.
