India’s Nov power generation falls 13.39% m-o-m
15 Jan 2016
India’s total power generation fell sharply or by 13.39% to 85.276 billion units (BU) during the month of November 2015 as compared to 98.459 BU generated in October, according to delayed data published by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
The decline in generation in November was along expected lines because of the non-monsoon season in the country that causes a dip in hydro power generation, which was down by 25.79% at 6.723 BU compared to 9.059 BU generated in October 2015.
Thermal power generation too dipped on a month-on-basis (m-o-m) basis as well as year-on-year (y-o-y).
Hydro power generation in India generally remains low between October and March of any financial year and then in the first two months of the beginning of a financial year (April-May) due to low water levels in reservoirs.
The overall generation too remains low during the winter in India that start in November and continues till February.
On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, generation in November 2015 was flat compared to 85.274 BU generated in November 2014, the data revealed.
The total generation of power during the first eight months (April-November) of 2015-16, however, stood at 739.915 BU, up 4.55% compared to 707.729 BU generated during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Following table provides details of power generation in November, October and September 2015, and November 2014, and in the eight months of 2015-16 & 2014-15
