India’s Oct pithead vendible stocks rise 7% y-o-y

November 27: India’s pithead vendible coal stocks rose 6.56% to 36.38 million tons (mt) on the last day of October 2015 against 34.14 million tons (mt) as on the last day of October 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, on a month-on-month basis, India’s pithead vendible coal stocks edged up 0.52% from 36.19 million recorded as on the last day of September 2015.
The increase could be attributed to higher pithead vendible stocks of Coal India (CIL) subsidiaries such as South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Northern Coalfields (NCL) where inventories rose to 7.43 mt, 1.14 mt, 3.28 mt, 5.41 mt and 3.82 mt respectively as on October 31, 2015 as against 4.90 mt, 1.19 mt, 3.11 mt, 6.12 mt and 1.41 mt respectively as on October 31, 2014.
Pithead vendible stocks at captive coal mines stood at 0.29 mt on October 31, 2015, down from 1.59 mt on the same day a year ago. Stocks at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) increased to 4.39 mt on October 31, 2015 from 2.02 mt as on October 31, 2014.
